I absolutely love photographing families at First Roots Farm in Oconomowoc, WI. The flower fields create such a beautiful summer backdrop. They also give families something a little different from the typical greenery, trees, or open fields that we often use for outdoor family photography.
This family has been in front of my camera for many years. Because I have photographed them at several of my favorite locations around the area, I wanted to give their family photos a fresh look this year. First Roots Farm felt like the perfect choice.

Family Photography with Two Young Boys
Photographing families with young kids always brings plenty of movement and personality. That is one of my favorite parts of family photography!
After I photographed mom and dad together for a few photos, I brought the boys into the mix. They especially loved one particular prompt. I told them to run toward mom and dad and tackle them with a giant hug.
They were ALL about it.
The boys ran straight to their parents, and everyone started laughing. It turned into one of those genuine family moments that you simply cannot force. Their laughter and excitement made the photos feel so natural.
Those are often my favorite images from a family session. While posed portraits have their place, the in-between moments show so much personality. They capture what this stage of family life actually feels like.
