Watertown WI Maternity Photography for First-Time Parents

Meeting first-time parents is always such a special part of being a maternity photographer. There is so much excitement surrounding this season of life. I love getting to spend time with expecting parents, chat about their growing family, and hear all about their plans for baby.

We talk about everything from name ideas to whether they found out the baby's gender. We also talk about how mom is feeling and what they envision for their maternity photos.

Getting to know my clients helps me create a session that feels personal to them.

For this Watertown, WI maternity photography session, we started the morning at Riverside Park before heading back to the studio for a completely different look.

Maternity Photos at Riverside Park in Watertown WI

Riverside Park gave us a beautiful outdoor setting to start the session.

The tall willow trees created a romantic backdrop for the maternity portraits. Their soft, flowing branches added movement and texture to the photographs while keeping the focus on the parents-to-be.

Outdoor maternity photography gives us the chance to incorporate nature into the session. At the same time, starting earlier in the morning can give the images a soft and peaceful feeling.

After we finished at Riverside Park, we headed to the studio.

Studio Maternity Photography in Watertown WI

The studio allowed us to completely change the look and feel of the session.

We photographed a variety of posed maternity portraits against a simple white backdrop. This created clean, classic images that will stay timeless for years.

Then, we moved to a lifestyle setup with a neutral bed and dark brick background. The darker backdrop created contrast against the lighter maternity looks and gave us another layer of variety.

I love combining different setups during maternity sessions. It allows parents to walk away with a gallery that feels complete rather than repetitive.

Creating Maternity and Newborn Photos That Connect

One of my favorite parts of maternity photography involves planning ahead for the newborn session.

During maternity sessions, I love creating certain poses that we can recreate when the family returns to the studio with their newborn. Seeing the same parents, the same setup, and then adding their new baby creates such a sweet visual connection between the two sessions.

Those photographs tell a bigger story.

First, we document the anticipation of meeting their baby. Then, just a few weeks later, we document the reality of finally holding that little person in their arms.

If you are expecting a baby in 2027, I would love to help you document both chapters.

I offer a discounted maternity and newborn photography bundle for families who want both sessions. It is a beautiful way to capture this short season from pregnancy through those first newborn days.
