There is something so timeless about simple family photos, especially when they take place in a bright, minimal studio space. This sweet family came to my natural light studio on Main Street in Watertown, WI to celebrate their baby girl turning one, and the entire session felt fun, relaxed, and full of personality. We started with clean, simple family portraits upstairs in my white, blank-space studio. The empty room creates the perfect minimal backdrop so the focus stays on connection, emotion, and the people in the frame. I especially love turning these images into black & whites for a cohesive gallery wall display.
Family Photos in the Minimal White Studio
This family of six always brings the best energy. Their four kids are so playful and silly, and they make the entire session feel joyful from start to finish. The second youngest especially had us laughing. He came ready with big expressions, goofy poses, and the sweetest bursts of personality. These are the moments I love capturing the most. They show exactly who your kids are right now. They freeze the tiny quirks and happy chaos that make family photos feel real and memorable.
We started with family photos and then added in sibling portraits. The kids were full of movement and excitement, but the clean white backdrop kept everything looking classic and cohesive. Simple spaces always bring out the best parts of a family session because nothing distracts from the love, connection, and the sweet relationships between everyone.
A Sweet + Simple First Birthday Cake Smash
After family photos, we moved downstairs for a simple and sweet cake smash setup. We used a white draped curtain, soft natural light, and the cutest gold confetti balloons for a little pop of celebration. Mom made the cake herself because of baby allergies, and it was perfect. Baby girl LOVED it. She went straight in, face first, taking the funniest, most determined little bites. We were all laughing because she kept going back for more.
Her tiny happy dance while eating her cake was everything. I grabbed a few quick video clips for mom and dad because moments like that deserve to be saved forever. These little one-year milestones always feel so special. It’s such a sweet age full of personality, curiosity, and joy.
