In-Home Newborn Photography in Johnson Creek WI
There is something incredibly special about photographing a family in their own home.
For this Johnson Creek, Wisconsin newborn session, I had the privilege of meeting a family who was referred to me by their previous photographer. She also happens to be a photographer friend of mine who recently moved out of state. I always feel honored when another photographer trusts me enough to send their clients my way.
This family had recently welcomed a sweet baby boy. His two-year-old big sister was already completely in love with him, and we had so much fun documenting their new life as a family of four.
Newborn Photos in the Nursery and Living Room
One of my favorite things about in-home newborn sessions is that every house gives me something different to work with.
For this session, we photographed in the baby's nursery and in the family's living room. The family also wanted to recreate a few poses from their daughter's newborn session.
I absolutely loved this idea.
Recreating photographs from an older sibling's newborn session creates such a sweet connection between the images. It gives parents a chance to look back at how their family has changed while still keeping some familiar elements from those first newborn photos.
We recreated some of those poses with their new baby boy. Then, we mixed in plenty of new photographs that captured who their family is today.
A Toddler and New Baby Boy
Two-year-olds bring their own kind of magic to newborn sessions.
Big sister was so sweet with her baby brother. She wanted to be near him and showed just how much she already loved her newest family member.
At this age, I do not expect toddlers to sit perfectly still for an entire session. Instead, I let them move, interact, and take breaks when needed.
That approach often creates more natural photographs.
We captured the sweet sibling moments, family portraits, and plenty of individual baby photos while allowing big sister to be herself.
Including the Family Dog in Newborn Photos
The family also has a dog, so of course we had to include their furry family member!
This is another reason I love in-home newborn photography. Your pets can easily become part of the session because we are already photographing in their familiar environment.
We also headed outside to the back porch for a few photos. The weather was beautiful, so it gave us another setting and a little variety in the final gallery.
Why I Love In-Home Family Photography
In-home sessions can be a fun creative challenge for me as a photographer.
I love documenting families in their own environment. Toddlers often feel more comfortable at home, and that comfort can make a huge difference during a newborn session.
At the same time, working inside someone's home means I have to find the best light and create flattering poses on the spot. I may not know exactly what I will find when I walk through the door.
Honestly, I love that challenge.
It gives me the opportunity to create something unique to each family instead of using the exact same setup every time.
