Outdoor Newborn Photography in Ixonia WI

When a family already has three little ones at home, a newborn session can look a little different.

For this Ixonia, Wisconsin family, we decided to take baby number four's newborn photos outdoors at Wayside Park.

I had photographed their first three babies in the studio. This time, we wanted to try something new. With three young children running around, the outdoor setting gave everyone room to move, explore, and enjoy the beautiful spring evening.

It turned out to be the perfect choice.

A Wayside Park Newborn Session With Four Children

Outdoor newborn photography can work beautifully for families with older siblings.

There is space for kids to move. There is fresh air. And there are plenty of opportunities to create photos that feel natural.

Of course, photographing three young siblings alongside a newborn takes some teamwork. Grandma was behind the scenes helping chase the older kids when needed. Thanks to her help, we were able to corral everyone long enough to capture so many beautiful family photographs.

We photographed the entire family together. Then, we captured the siblings with their new baby sister. We also made sure to get photos of mom with each child and dad with each child. Because the session happened close to Father's Day, those individual parent-and-child photos felt especially meaningful.

Fresh Spring Air and a Content Newborn

One of the best parts of this session was how content baby girl stayed throughout the evening.

The fresh spring air seemed to agree with her.

Along with all of the family combinations, we also created a few photographs of baby girl alone using props. That gave the gallery a nice mix of lifestyle family images and traditional newborn portraits.

I love offering both because families deserve photographs that show their relationships as well as photographs that focus entirely on their new baby.

A Special Newborn Photo for Grandma

There was also one particular photo that Grandma requested.

During the older children's newborn sessions, we photographed a pose during all three siblings and their two cousins. Grandma wanted to recreate that same idea with the newest member of the family.

Baby girl was completely content and curled up beautifully on the blanket and pillow.

Being able to recreate a meaningful photograph years later is one of my favorite parts of photographing growing families. The original photo becomes part of the family's history, and then the new image adds another chapter.

Why Try an Outdoor Newborn Session?

A newborn session does not have to happen inside a studio.

Outdoor newborn photography can give families a relaxed setting with natural light, fresh air, and plenty of space for older siblings.

It can also make the session feel like an adventure instead of another appointment for a busy family.

If you are welcoming a new baby and have older children who love being outside, an outdoor newborn session at a local park might be exactly what you need.
