A Sweet First Birthday Cake Smash — Watertown, WI
Cake smash sessions are such a joyful way to celebrate your baby’s first birthday! Whether in my Watertown studio or outdoors in Oconomowoc, these milestone photos are full of giggles, frosting-covered fingers, and big smiles.
Before every cake smash, I ask parents for input on the setup. Some families go simple and classic with balloons, florals and soft pastels, while others love a fun theme — either way I customize the set to your requests. This little guys momma asked for blues and greens with a farm theme. I created a blue barn and cow to have in the background against my painted tree backdrop, that looks out of a children picture book. Creating these sets are one of my favorite parts about being a baby photographer.
I always capture a few portraits before the cake fun begins, then document every adorable moment of discovery — from the first curious poke to the messy, happy chaos that follows. Afterward, a quick splash bath cleanup can be included for even more cuteness! This guy wanted nothing to do with the bath portion, but we captured so many fun photos of him exploring his first birthday cake.
